MAGGIE & VINNY | NEW HAMPSHIRE & VERMONT WEDDING

I have a confession to make!  It’s been a really, really long time (as in 2011) since I’ve blogged one of Whitney’s weddings.  Yes, Whitney is out there, busy as a bee shooting weddings!  We’ve both had jam-packed summers & falls, filled to the brim with gorgeous weddings.  In fact, we’ve been so busy that blogging sometimes takes a back seat.  However, I’m just dying to share this one.  You may have noticed, that I love traveling!  So when one of our Minneapolis brides informed us that one of her bridesmaids was getting married at a barn in Vermont, we cheerfully informed her that we travel anywhere!  I mean, a barn wedding in the rolling hills of Vermont with one of the sweetest couples you’ll ever meet?  Yeah, it doesn’t get much better than that! :)  Maggie & Vinny booked Whitney for their wedding, but it turned out that I had that weekend free (rare for October!!), so how could I turn down being a part of this day as Whitney’s second shooter?

So, Whitney and I boarded a plane headed for Boston, rented a car, and navigated to New Hampshire (where the ceremony took place) & Vemont (home of the Alerin Barn) for Maggie & Vinny’s big day!  Fall in Vermont?  Perfect time to go!!  Maggie & Vinny’s day could not have been more perfect, except for one minor detail.  It rained.  No, it really rained.  It was overcast, and dreary, and by some stroke of luck, the skies cleared and we managed to sneak out for portraits between bursts of rain.  For some couples this would’ve been less-than-ideal, but for Maggie & Vinny, the day was all about celebration, and I can honestly say Maggie was one of the most jubilant brides I have ever seen.  She was smiling ear to ear all day and it seemed as though she could’ve cared less about the weather.  Perfect example of how one’s perspective can manifest into everything around them.  Because of Maggie & Vinny, the guests were all smiles, and it was one big party.  Whitney and I had such an amazing time capturing their day and we can’t wait to see Maggie & Vinny and Maggie’s family in a couple weeks for a friend’s wedding in Minneapolis!

Enjoy a few of our favorite images from this beautiful day!

Stacy Able - Gorgeous Laura just stunning. Great detail shots and the photo of the goat kills me. So cute.

KELSY & BUTCH | WISCONSIN LIFESTYLE SESSION ON FILM

Meet the McCartneys!! ;) Kelsy & Butch are my friends and fellow photographers (amazing, amazing film photographers based in Wausau, Wisconsin) and I was so honored to capture this adorable duo for the second time! Since I first met them, they have moved back to Wisconsin, purchased a lovely home (seriously, get ready to be jealous!), and have a new furry addition to the family, who goes by the name of Parker James!  (I also think they may have gotten even more cute in the past two years, which I did not think was possible.)  I had so much fun with K&B on their home turf and they even took me to their favorite restaurant after our session!  K&B are such an inspiration to me, in so many ways. Beyond being skilled photographers and business people, they are just so darn in love.  They are best friends.  They are so fun to be around and so full of joy.  What an amazing quality to spread smiles and joy to everyone around you.  Thank you for the best afternoon, my friends!!

PS- My husband, pup, and I also had the honor of being photographed by the McCartneys!  It was so important to me to find a film photographer and someone I knew I could be relaxed around.  Trust is so important and I trust K&B 110%.  I haven’t seen the images yet (the downside of film is the wait, but it’s so worth it!!), and I hope to share those on the blog in a few weeks, as well as some tips I learned planning for my own session and being on the other side of the camera.  What a great experience! :)

ENJOY!!

Kelsy McCartney - Oh my GOSH Laura!! We love these images SO much!!!! Wow!! Parker looks adorable, Butch looks so handsome, and you captured us perfectly!! BULGARIA 2012

My favorite thing is to go where I’ve never been! I absolutely love traveling and feel so invigorated, inspired, excited, and privileged to experience all the different cultures that this lovely planet has to offer. My husband is from Bulgaria and grew up in Bulgaria, and we try to visit his homeland as often as we can. Unfortunately, since 2004, that has only equated to a trip every two years, but I think everyone can understand how life just gets in the way. A trip to Eastern Europe (or anywhere!) involves coordinating schedules, taking time off work, not booking weddings, saving money, flying half way around the world. There are always dozens of excuses why we can’t travel, but we’ve really tried to make it a priority in our lives. Even though every two years is sporadic, to say the least, I feel lucky that we’ve been able to travel to Bulgaria so many times. It makes the visits really special and I can’t even imagine how much it means to my husband, who only sees his parents and the rest of his family every two years, or for special occasions, like weddings in Africa! These trips are a really big deal, so I appreciate all of my clients who have been so supportive when I jet off for 2-4 weeks during the middle of wedding season. Whenever we visit BG, we try to see new places within the country, as there is so much diversity and so much to see.

I realized while looking through these photos, and my photos from our last trip in 2010, that I barely take any pictures of my husband’s hometown, Sofia; the capital city. I’m not sure exactly why, but I think it’s because it sort of feels like home to me. I rarely take pictures in Minneapolis or NYC any more (unless you count Instagram, which I do, of course) because I guess the novelty has worn off, so to speak. My next trip in 2014, I promise I’ll capture images that show a different side of Bulgaria! My husband wanted me to note that the images that I so love capturing, do not accurately depict life for the majority of Bulgarians. He was not a big fan of the car pic below (one of my favs!), but I happen to love those old villages, old junky cars, and those mountains. :)

Here are a few of my favorites from 2012. All of these images were captured on my favorite, my Contax 645, with Fuji Pro 400H film.  Enjoy!

Butch McCartney - Laura! This is SO great! I love what you wrote :) My favorite is the shot in the alley with smoke coming from the chimney!

Helgi - I love LOVE this Laura! Soooooo nice!

Kristina - I don’t go back that often either, and your note plus the photos inspired me to try a little harder and involve Geo in it as well. Kisses from me

Laura - Thank you, my lovely friends!! <3

tasha - Goodness! The country is lovely! Of course, your photos are stunning and have convinced me, I must travel there!

Kendra - How much do I love this? Way, way too much. Beautiful work as always, Laura!!

Emilia Jane - !!! I leave for Paris in two weeks and absolutely cannot wait. This post is gorgeous and makes me even more excited :-D

Nina - Nice,Laura!!

Jackie Just - Laura – love the Bulgaria and Paris images from these two posts. So fun. Say, what’s the story with the rose covered car? Is this an art installation or someone that just really likes wiring fresh roses to their car?

Laura - Thank you everyone!! I’m not exactly sure of the story behind the rose covered van, but I think it was some sort of promotion?? We really just saw it in passing and I snapped a pic because I thought it was lovely! :)

Kimberly - Your accordion man est tres bien; the kind of street photography I adore and aspire to.
