THANKFUL

Gosh, is my heart full.  And, my stomach! ;)  I spent the Thanksgiving holiday yesterday with surrounded by some of the most important people in my life.  I am pretty darn thankful for my family.  I have to just take a minute to brag about them, because  I love them so much!!  I don’t ever want to take them for granted.  Growing up, I was taught morals and values, but also encouraged to think for myself.  I was shown by actions, not just words.  I was raised with strong examples of marriage and love, not only from my own parents, but my 11 sets of aunts and uncles and 2 sets of grandparents, all amazing examples of enduring, loving relationships, all still married (except for grandma who is widowed).  I also have a brother and 30 first cousins (yes 30!!) who are talented, successful, brilliant people, or children with really bright futures (I’m the 4th oldest, so many are still quite young!).  My in-laws are pretty amazing too. I feel lucky to be a part of this family and I feel lucky to have an amazing husband who is like my father in so many ways.  I have equally important friends in my life.  Oh, and not to brag, but I have the best dog in the world.  Ok, ok, fine, I won’t be that person.  One of the best dogs in the world.

I am also beyond thankful for my clients.  For you.  I really am living the dream.  I can’t describe how lucky I feel to wake up every morning and spend my days doing something I love.  I am privileged and honored to do what I do and to have been a part of so many fantastic wedding celebrations.  It’s truly one of the happiest days of a person’s life and I get to be a part of that.  I get to photograph.  I get to do something I truly feel passion for.  I’m definitely a lucky girl and though any business owner will tell you it’s hard work (like super hard), it doesn’t feel like it when you truly love it in your heart.

I am thankful for all the people in the my life.  I am thankful for the experiences I have had.  I am thankful that I have the ability to make time for my other passions in life like cooking, running, hanging out with friends, traveling, reading, organizing my house (yes, I love organizing!!), talking leisurely walks around this neighborhood that I love (NE Minneapolis!) with a great playlist on my iPod shuffle, group fitness classes at my gym, dinners and wine dates with photographer friends, and so much more.  As much as it’s a love/hate relationship, I am also thankful for social media and the capability to connect with people I would’ve otherwise likely lost touch with.  (See some of my favorite iPhone pics from the from the past year or check out my passions on Instagram!)

What are you thankful for?  Whatever it is, I hope you enjoyed the holiday yesterday and had a chance to reflect on all the wonderful things in your life.

Caitlin Sullivan - I’m thankful I found you : ) Hope we can meet someday soon!

Tiffany Kay - I know I speak for so many people when I say I am very thankful for people like you whose work shows real love and the care you put into each shot. You captured our wedding beautifully and for that we are so thankful! Happy Holidays!

MAGGIE & VINNY | NEW HAMPSHIRE & VERMONT WEDDING

I have a confession to make!  It’s been a really, really long time (as in 2011) since I’ve blogged one of Whitney’s weddings.  Yes, Whitney is out there, busy as a bee shooting weddings!  We’ve both had jam-packed summers & falls, filled to the brim with gorgeous weddings.  In fact, we’ve been so busy that blogging sometimes takes a back seat.  However, I’m just dying to share this one.  You may have noticed, that I love traveling!  So when one of our Minneapolis brides informed us that one of her bridesmaids was getting married at a barn in Vermont, we cheerfully informed her that we travel anywhere!  I mean, a barn wedding in the rolling hills of Vermont with one of the sweetest couples you’ll ever meet?  Yeah, it doesn’t get much better than that! :)  Maggie & Vinny booked Whitney for their wedding, but it turned out that I had that weekend free (rare for October!!), so how could I turn down being a part of this day as Whitney’s second shooter?

So, Whitney and I boarded a plane headed for Boston, rented a car, and navigated to New Hampshire (where the ceremony took place) & Vemont (home of the Alerin Barn) for Maggie & Vinny’s big day!  Fall in Vermont?  Perfect time to go!!  Maggie & Vinny’s day could not have been more perfect, except for one minor detail.  It rained.  No, it really rained.  It was overcast, and dreary, and by some stroke of luck, the skies cleared and we managed to sneak out for portraits between bursts of rain.  For some couples this would’ve been less-than-ideal, but for Maggie & Vinny, the day was all about celebration, and I can honestly say Maggie was one of the most jubilant brides I have ever seen.  She was smiling ear to ear all day and it seemed as though she could’ve cared less about the weather.  Perfect example of how one’s perspective can manifest into everything around them.  Because of Maggie & Vinny, the guests were all smiles, and it was one big party.  Whitney and I had such an amazing time capturing their day and we can’t wait to see Maggie & Vinny and Maggie’s family in a couple weeks for a friend’s wedding in Minneapolis!

Enjoy a few of our favorite images from this beautiful day!

Stacy Able - Gorgeous Laura just stunning. Great detail shots and the photo of the goat kills me. So cute.

BAYFIELD & MADELINE ISLAND ON FILM

I wanted to share a few favorites from a personal trip to Bayfield & Madeline Island, Wisconsin. This getaway was a lovely reminder of all the beauty to explore right in our own backyard. It’s fun to take exotic trips around the world, but I also want to explore the great upper midwest. Thanks to my mom for the pic of me below! :) Enjoy!!

Kelsy McCartney - Laura these images are GORGEOUS!! Don’t you just love Bayfield! I especially like the watercolor sunset photos reflecting on the water :) These should be art in your home!!

Amy - Makes me miss the midwest and north shore so much! Beautiful!
